Plaid Gomiwnyddol Cymru (the Communist Party of Wales) condemns the imperialist aggression which stems from the United States of America, and the US-backed Zionist entity ‘israel’. In particular, we condemn the military strikes conducted by the American military, a known enemy to the world, as they attacked Iran.

These attacks and escalations will not stop now. The US deepening its involvement will inevitably lead to unimaginable suffering for the people of Iran and the Middle East, to vile human rights violations, to war crimes, supported by their bloody track record in Iraq, in Afghanistan and in US-backed coups elsewhere. It is pivotal that we have unwavering solidarity with the people of Iran, to oppose this escalation, to affirm the right of Iran to self-defence from these attacks and to support resistance to imperialism in the Middle East and around the world.

The US’s reckless bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities is not just a war crime, it is an act of imperialist barbarism. The US, ‘israel’, the UK, and EU, all salivate at the idea of dragging us into another war in the Middle East, to place yet another country under their control and to weigh down the people with American-backed loans and extract raw resources from their soil. It flagrantly violates the UN Charter, international law, and even the hollow pretence of the U.S. Constitution. This brazen escalation threatens to ignite a regional, or even global, inferno, unleashing untold suffering, nuclear catastrophe, and a new era of imperialist bloodshed.

Trump’s hollow promises of ending “forever wars” have been exposed as a grotesque lie. He and Netanyahu continue to peddle deceit about an Iranian nuclear weapons program, echoing the very same lies Bush & Blair used to justify the slaughter in Iraq. The working class must see through their propaganda, this is imperialism in its most naked, violent form.

The US, ‘israel’, the UK, and the EU are salivating at the prospect of another colonial war, another nation crushed under their boot, another people shackled by debt, another land plundered for its resources.

The vultures within the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are already circling above Syria, saying they will need “substantial” loans to rebuild its economy since Bashar Assad was ousted in 2024 by the US-Israeli backed “Hayat Tahrir al-Sham” regime. We know what the IMF’s intentions are, in Africa, The IMF enslaves nations in debt, ensuring that colonial powers maintain their stranglehold over the Global South. that resources are privately owned by the same colonial nations who subjugated them in the first place. In Greece, we saw the IMF overturn a democratically elected government who had pledged to end the austerity imposed on them by the banking powers of Europe.

This is what the US and its allies want for Iran, to overthrow its government, raise up a puppet government, bring in the IMF and use  their combined military & financial power to control and loot the Iranian people, land and raw resources.

Meanwhile, the British state, ever the obedient attack dog of US imperialism, has its knives out and bloody hand in all this too. The Cyprus military base, which has been used to aid the genocide of the Palestinian people, is now preparing for war with Iran. British jets are arriving in the Middle East, to ‘protect’ the Zionist entity from retaliatory attacks from Iran after ‘israel’ attacked Iran. NATO, a tool of US imperialist aggression masquerading as “defence,” is mobilizing for war. The stakes could not be higher: this is a fight to stop a global conflagration.

We say this; the working class in Wales will not be sent to die for imperialism, our factories must end the production of arms, we must ensure that no ship or plane carrying weapons can leave, our politicians must be forced to choose a ceasefire and direct oppose this escalation or complicity. We demand:

• An immediate end to US and ‘israeli’ attacks on Iran.
• We call on the Plaid Cymru leader, Rhun ap Iorwerth, to retract his shameful statement made one year ago, where he said that he would support an independent Wales to be an “associate” member of NATO.
• We call on Welsh Labour, as useless and spineless as they may be, to condemn their masters in Westminster for their reckless support of this escalation.
• We call on all politicians in Wales to condemn and oppose the planned proscription of Palestine Action, who we recognise as being one of the few forces in Britain who are doing all they can to end the genocide and prevent further war.

Anything short of this is an endorsement of the status quo, a status quo which supports genocide and will inevitably drag us to war.

US imperialism will drown the Middle East in blood unless we stop it. The time for action is now. The time for passive opposition is over. We must meet this moment with fury, with action, with unyielding resistance.
