“It’s all the tories’ fault!” – Think Labour means change? Look at Wales

By Alf, PGC Member

“It’s all the Tories’ fault”

The rallying cry of a political party who is sure of their own ability to govern… Let’s just disregard the 25 years of static child poverty, a decade of which came under a UK and Welsh Labour government – it must have been the Tories fault somehow anyway.

There is a General Election coming – but we know nothing will change, why is that? Because we know what the “alternative” is; the alternative sits in Cardiff Bay, in our Senedd, and  they further entrench poverty and misery in Wales on a weekly basis. We are of course talking about Welsh Labour, the shambolic, rotten remains of the once working-class party, the party of Keir Hardie, the party of titans of the Welsh working class.

We want to explain to our readers what exactly the Labour Party is, through our experiences with the Welsh Labour Party. We will give you a series of tests to decide whether you want to vote in Labour MPs this July.

Corruption

The first principle of the Labour Party is corruption, the new Prif Weinidog (first minister) is Vaughan Gething, is (allegedly) corrupt on an almost comedic scale. Vaughan Gething took a ‘donation’ (see: bribe) from a businessman convicted of criminal environmental damages, to the tune of £200,000, which we’re sure has nothing to do with the £400,000 loan the Welsh Government gave this businessman when Vaughan Gething was Economy Minister, right? Others are delving deeper into this stinking story than we can but it looks rotten.

It doesn’t stop there though, it is endemic of Welsh Labour politicians, as the MP of Pontypridd proves. Alex Davies-Jones, a Labour Party MP and the Shadow Minister for ‘Tech, Gambling & Digital Economy’ in 2023, has taken the bloodmoney of the gambling firms and laundered their reputations. She was given a £50 bet for the Grand National from the ‘Betting & Gambling Council’, a lobbying firm, and when she won, she gifted the money to a local foodbank and praised the gambling lobbyists for this kind donation. She took tickets, plus hospitality, for the Carabao Cup worth £700 from Flutter Entertainment. Gambling causes misery daily, how many people rely on foodbanks because of the predatory gambling firms and their practices? Her job was to oversee gambling, surely she heard stories from gambling addicts and the charities which support them? Did she feel one iota of shame when she promoted gambling to her constituents and wrote that piece thanking the Betting and Gambling Council?

So, Labour politicians are corrupt in both the Senedd and in Westminster.

Genocidal

The next principle of the Labour Party is genocide. They actually have a long and proud history of supporting genocide, as is the British tradition, dating back to 1948. Clement Atlee, and his Welsh associate Nye Bevan, set about building a new British state after World War Two, it’s a shame they built it on the bones of the colonised! In 1948, the National Liberation War of Malaya began, and the British Labour Party reacted by committing a genocide, enacting summary executions of Malasian communists (similar to the executions of the leaders of the 1916 Irish Easter Rising), then they put hundreds of thousands into concentration camps, and fought a bloody war to ensure the British Empire would retain its resource rich colony.

Flash forward to today and the Zionist genocide of the Palestinian people, and where is the Labour Party? It stands behind the Zionist entity, ready to do their duty come the 4th of July and supply the ‘israeli’ occupation force (IOF) with bullets and bombs to murder Palestinians. In the Senedd, the Welsh Labour government refused to back a ceasefire motion, and in Westminster, Welsh Labour MP Chris Bryant filibustered to stop the SNP from having a motion read to call for a ceasefire.

Again, we see in the Senedd and Westminster, the Labour Party stands ready and willing to do their imperialist duty, to get their hands bloody on behalf of Zionism.

Austerity

As mentioned at the start, Welsh Labour have overseen 25 years of devolution in Wales. Eleven years of this was in partnership with a British Labour Party in Westminster. Despite this, child poverty has never improved, it has been maintained by the Labour Party (Welsh & British) at around 30%, so many children in Wales grow up in poverty. On the one hand, this poverty is used by Welsh Labour under a Tory government to make the case for a Labour government in Westminster, while under a Labour government in Westminster (1999-2010), it was swept under the rug and ignored. However, what is never allowed, is us having the power in Wales to end poverty ourselves! This is never a demand under a Tory government, nor a request under a Labour government. It suits Welsh Labour to blame someone else for their weakness.

But who do I vote for?

Firstly – no change will come from electoralism as a rule. As Karl Marx said “The working class cannot grasp the tools of the state ready made and wield them for their own purposes”, the state is designed by the capitalists to work for their benefit, any change of the guard within the state happens at the will of the capitalists. Those who challenge it even to the slightest degree will be hounded and defeated before they even reach power, or if they reach power, they will be removed via the quickest method, often via a violent coup.

So you do not need to vote whatsoever, voting is the surface level of political activity. If you live in Wales, look into the Welsh Underground Network, get involved in working class, socialist community revitalisation. Talk about change with your friends, read some theory (check out our website for a guide!), do something, anything, beyond just casting a vote once every 5 years.
If you are desperate to vote, consider spoiling. A spoilt vote is counted and obviously not cast in favour of anyone. Just be careful not to mark inside any of the boxes lest a corrupt politician argues that a ballot that says “fuck Starmer” is a vote for Starmer, because the last R is in the box next to the politicians name.
